Gardasil (the HPV Vaccine)

HPV (human papillomavirus) vaccines are available for men and women to protect against the most common types of HPV that cause genital warts, cervical cancer and other genital cancers, as well as some anal and oral cancers. Two vaccines are currently marketed (Gardasil and Cervarix). Student Health Services stocks only Gardasil.

Vaccination is recommended for females ages nine to 26 and men ages nine to 21. Three doses are needed over a six-month time period. It is recommended that the same vaccine brand be used for all three doses.

The best way a person can be sure to get the most from the HPV vaccination is to have all three doses before beginning sexual activity. Vaccination can be done later. Vaccination is not a substitute for regular cervical cancer screening (Pap testing) or condom use.

Student Health Services does not bill insurance companies for vaccinations. All vaccines are administered by a fee.
